Benefits of Membership

1. We are a mosaic of businesses seeking to develop a viable downtown that attracts business. A corporate voice in matters that concern the Downtown packs more punch than disparate voices.

2. Communication between businesses is facilitated by the Newsletter, the team-captain system for circulating information, the website, and an elected Board of (9) Directors.

3. As a local Downtown Development Association we are recognized by the
Oregon Downtown Development Association, a good resource for us.

4. As an organization we benefit from the support of Union County Tourism (e.g. helping to defray the cost of our Downtown Shopping Guide) and our Chamber of Commerce (the opportunity to publish the "Downtown Beat" in the monthly Chamber Times).

5. Upon occasion LGDDA members business names are listed together in the local newspapers. There is a listing in the Downtown Shopping Guide, now in its second edition. The website offers a place for the listing of names as well as a great opportunity to network.

6. Through the Board of Directors and at our annual meeting we share ideas and points of view in an organized fashion.

7. The collection of annual dues ($50) and the sale of Downtown Holiday ornaments allows us to rent an office space within the Fire Museum, rent a cell phone, a P.O. box, maintain a non-profit organizational status with the State of Oregon, purchase banners for Crazy Days, parades and lamp posts, and to purchase ads for our promotions. There are no paid positions in the LGDDA.

8. As an organization we participate in community efforts such as "Play Grande," the kids play area at Riverside Park constructed in 2004.

9. We have been involved in sharing funds and energy to improve the Downtown decor—benches, planters, banners, and lights (esp. Christmas).

10. We can better coordinate business hours when promotions occur: Farmer's Market, Late-til-Eight, Crazy Days, Halloween Trick-or-Treat, Twilight Parade and others.

11. We can generate good feelings and a positive atmosphere about our community (on a Grande scale).
